Yorkshire Innovation Fund
We’re proud to be working with the Yorkshire Innovation Fund, which enables access to university research and ingenuity. The YIF has facilitated our work with UK Universities, by funding first a Small Innovation Project and subsequently a longer-term Research&Development Project.
Part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the fund helps small businesses to develop ideas for new products, services or processes by funding collaborative projects with the region’s universities, drawing on their expertise, specialist equipment or facilities to develop ideas which result in business growth.
York St John University
This partnership was instrumental in drawing together a blueprint for a fully interactive online learning tool. In March 2014 Patrick Holtby (Director, 5th Wall) began working with Dr Mike O’Dea, a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at York St John University, and Jenny Hall, the University’s Business Development Manager. Their expertise has enabled us to bring our unique approach into the virtual world.
“Working with 5th Wall was an exciting and very productive process for York St John University. Collaborating on a live business brief benefitted our Computer Science department. 5th Wall are a forward thinking and highly motivated business in York and North Yorkshire and we are continuing to build our relationship with this growing company”

University of Hull
In Autumn 2014 we began a partnership with the Digital Media Team at the University of Hull, led by Dr Darren Mundy. The University’s Knowledge Exchange program puts businesses in touch with a range of cutting-edge knowledge and resources to develop new ideas. The outcome of our collaboration was the development the blueprint into unique software that translated drama based learning into a truly interactive online experience.
